Did You Catch the Phantom Menace Reference in the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Trailer?

Back in 2005, we all thought the Skywalker saga was going to end with Revenge of the Sith, but now with the Disney Star Wars era, we're going to get a new conclusion in the form of The Rise of Skywalker. What's interesting about the new trailer is, it actually has a neat reference to the trailer for Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

Just in case you're curious, here's the original trailer for Phantom Menace:

There's actually a fun story behind Episode I's trailer. Back in the 90s when Youtube didn't exist, the only way for Star Wars fans to check out the trailer for TPM was to buy an actual movie ticket and watch it in theaters. It was said that the film Meet Joe Black got a huge number of sales solely because people wanted to check out the trailer for Episode I, and a lot of people reportedly left the theater after the preview was finished.

With the callback to Episode I, a lot of people can't help but think this movie will try to give a definite conclusion to the story starting all the way back from the prequels. We already have the confirmation of Palpatine's return, but I'm sure there's even more connections in the movie we still don't know about. I'm still standing by my theory that the red armored stormtroopers are a clone army.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker comes out Dec. 20.
