Dante Basco Teases Animated Origin Movie for His Hook Character, Rufio

Dante Basco is known for playing a lot of iconic characters from American Dragon Jake Long to crown prince of the Fire Nation Zuko, but probably his most memorable onscreen role is that of Rufio in Steven Spielberg's cult classic Hook. Though Basco may be too old to play the character now, he teases that an animated origin movie is in the works.

Basco tells Collider Games:

"We're in development for something that's Rufio-based. It's out there. We'll be pitching soon. I can't really talk about it, but it's an origin story of Rufio and it would be animated. I would come back and voice the character. Let's put it like that."

If you've watched Hook, Rufio is the one who takes leadership of the Lost Boys after Peter Pan (Robin Williams) left to become an adult. While Rufio was one of the antagonists of the film, he steadily becomes one of Peter's better allies before he gets taken down by Captain Hook.

Since the movie is still in early development, we don't really get to see anything from the film, but I think an origin story for Rufio could be fascinating. Maybe we can follow his journey as he ends up in Neverland and becomes the leader of the Lost Boys. Though Hook was critically panned when it came out, it still manages to become one cult classic for anyone who saw it in the right age.

No release date has been set for this Rufio movie, but you can catch Basco as Prince Zuko in Avatar: The Last Airbender now on Netflix.
