DC Wants Green Lantern Series to Feel Like a Big Budget Movie

With Marvel looking to make mini-series for Disney+, it looks like DC wants to do the same with HBO Max. They've just announced an upcoming Green Lantern series for HBO Max, and it looks like they want it to be on par with the films.

This comes from insider Daniel Richtman:

With Green Lantern being turned into a series, I have a feeling there isn't any plan to make a movie anytime soon; which I think is kind of a bummer, seeing as the Lanterns were already teased in the Justice League film.

If anything, it looks like this series will fall into the DC TV shows universe like Batwoman, Doom Patrol, and The Flash, seeing that Greg Berlanti had worked as a producer for all those shows. Basically whatever series is in development for DC, means that there aren't any plans to bring the characters to the big screen anytime soon.

With Joker out, I'd think that DC would be open to embracing a multi-verse type of situation. They're still pushing forward with the DCEU timeline with the likes of Shazam!, Wonder Woman 1984, and Birds of Prey, but they seem to be branching into different continuities like with Matt Reeves' The Batman.

Hopefully, the Green Lantern series will help push interest for a full movie. I know I wanted to see Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart on the big screen. Heck, maybe this spinoff can be an anthology that focuses on the lesser-known Lanterns like Kilowog or Guy Gardner.

No release date has been set for Green Lantern. HBO Max is set to launch in May 2020.
