Captain America: Anthony Mackie Initially Signed on to Star in 10 MCU Films

Avengers: Endgame concluded with Steve Rogers handing off the shield to Sam Wilson, but now fans are curious how long Mackie's run as the new Captain America will be. At best, it looks like we have four more movies with him, but it's likely that things could change.

Talking to Men's Health, Mackie reveals that he had signed on to do ten movies for Marvel Studios initially, but with him being the next Captain America, and the Falcon and The Winter Soldier series incoming, his deal is sure to change. Mackie says, "I just wait for the phone call."

So far, Mackie has starred in about six MCU movies, starting from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, then Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, then finally Avengers: Endgame. For now Mackie has four movies left, but with him being the lead, it's possible Marvel would want to extend his contract.

If we broke it down, I think Sam's Cap deserves his own three-movie trilogy, so that gives us one more left in the contract. No doubt they would want his Cap in a New Avengers movie as well. Fans could also expect team-ups between each solo film—add to that possible cameos. At best, I think an extension of five more films could give enough time for Sam Wilson's Captain America to really bring the character full circle.

Again, that's just my opinion. For sure Marvel Studios is already outlining how long they want Mackie's Cap to be in the MCU. Let's just hope they don't kill him off when it's time for someone else to be Cap.

For now, MCU Phase 3 is set to close with Spider-Man: Far from Home which hits theaters July 2.
