Bumblebee had just opened in theaters, but the movie isn't faring well compared to its competitor Aquaman. With the film attempting to be a reboot of the Transformers franchise, director Travis Knight has something to say about what lies ahead.
Talking to Cinema Blend, Knight comments:
"When I get to the end of one of my movies… I always imagine what's next for the characters. And so, in my mind, I've got all these scenarios and adventures that play out, both with Charlie and with Bee and everyone else. We'll see if the world wants more. Maybe we'll explore some of those things."
While the Michael Bay films were critically panned, a lot of good things have been said about the Bumblebee film. While it hasn't had the same praise as the likes of Aquaman or Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, a lot of old-school Transformers fans have definitely expressed their appreciation for this reboot, and it's definitely a step in the right direction.
With Knight's message basically summing up to a "We'll see," if there's going to be a sequel down the line, I'm guessing all we really have to do is wait. Maybe the film will get more traction in January once the Aquaman hype has died down. Maybe the worldwide box office will react differently once the film has been released everywhere.
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee the Autobot seeks refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town. Charlie, on the brink of turning 18 years old and trying to find her place in the world, soon discovers the battle-scarred and broken Bumblebee. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns that this is no ordinary yellow Volkswagen.
