BoJack Horseman: Lionsgate to Sell the Show to International Channels

BoJack Horseman is an original Netflix show, but it looks like he's going to be arriving in more international channels in the future.

As per Variety, Lionsgate is planning to sell BoJack to international channels, allowing the show to be watched in a medium other than Netflix. They had already done the same with other Netflix originals like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, and it looks like BoJack will be their first attempt at an animated series.

Talking to Variety, president of worldwide television and digital distribution for Lionsgate Jim Packer explains, "Animated comedies are hard – they are not easy to produce, but they work incredibly well in syndication… These shows tend to perform at a level that allows them to get licensed year after year internationally."

It's said that Lionsgate has the rights to the first three seasons of BoJack, and they're planning to sell it to other networks via Mipcom in Cannes. Anyone waiting for the fourth and fifth seasons of the show will have to wait on a later date.

I'll admit, BoJack Horseman is one of my most favorite shows on Netflix, but I don't know how it will fare in other channels. For one, the first season is considered very weak, and even after they get to the good parts of the show, I don't know if it will have that mass appeal that Family Guy or The Simpsons has with audiences. If you ask me, I think F is for Family would have been the better crowd-pleaser.

Then again, what do I know?

Catch BoJack Horseman on Netflix.
