Black Widow: Could David Harbour be Playing the Crimson Dynamo?

After Hellboy and Stranger Things, David Harbour is jumping over to the MCU to be in the Black Widow movie. We don't really know who his character is yet, but it's interesting that he looks a lot like the comics' Dmitri Bukharin a.k.a. one of the many Crimson Dynamo's in the comics.

This was pointed out by MCU Cosmic's Jeremy Conrad:

Of course, it's likely that Harbour is playing someone completely different, but I think it's unlikely that they would cast someone of his imposing stature and celebrity as a side character. I mean, they did that to him for Suicide Squad, and look how that turned out.

What's interesting is, Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke) from Iron Man 2 is actually an amalgamation of two different Iron Man villains. Though his main alias was Whiplash, his Vanko identity comes from the Crimson Dynamo. The first Dynamo was actually Anton Vanko—which was the name of Ivan's father in the film.

With Bukharin's character connected to the KGB in the comics, it's very likely that they would make that connection with Black Widow in this movie. Though the main villain seems to be Taskmaster, I don't expect him to be that much of a spectacle—which the Crimson Dynamo could very well be.

Personally, I'm hoping Harbour is playing a character that can show up in more than one film. With his Hellboy franchise seemingly on hold, I would love it if they made him a regular in the MCU.

No release date has been set for Black Widow, but everyone is hoping for an announcement during the SDCC 2019 panel on July 20.

You can catch Harbour in the third season of Stranger Things now on Netflix.
