Avengers: Endgame Directors Bullied Tom Holland into Watching Star Wars for the First Time

If you've been following the MCU, you'll know that Tom Holland's Spider-Man is a huge fan of Star Wars. While Peter Parker is a huge nerd when it comes to a galaxy far far away, Holland himself had not actually seen the films until he started working with the Russo brothers.

Talking to FOX 5 DC, Joe and Anthony Russo reveal that they were the ones to practically bully Holland to the world of Star Wars. Joe Russo explained, "We were stunned… We adore Tom, but I'll tell you, getting to know Tom, Tom is a young man. He is a very young man. [Empire Strikes Back] is twice his age." Anthony Russo added, "I have to tell you, I actually got really excited when he said he hadn't seen it because the idea was so novel to me and unexpected… I was like, 'This is fantastic.' Tom is a guy whose sensibilities we really admire and value, and it's like, 'Oh my God, we get to tap into his sensibilities and they're unaffected by Star Wars.' I'm like, 'What is that? What does that mean?' I was very excited by that."

If anything, the Russo brothers think they've teased Holland enough to at least have him check out the original films. Joe admitted, "I think we've since busted his chops enough that he's seen it. I think he's seen the [original] Star Wars trilogy at this point." Until Holland makes that confirmation, all we can really do is guess. In the meantime, Peter Parker remains the biggest Star Wars nerd in the MCU.

While I'm sure there are fans who love to gatekeep Star Wars and make sure that the people working on the franchise have a love for it, I see no problem about letting actors who haven't checked out the movies to work on the films. I mean, Bill Burr actively trashed on the franchise for years, but he has somehow made it into an episode of The Mandalorian with rumors for a return in the second season.

For now, the next big Star Wars property is The Mandalorian Season 2 and it's expected to debut this October on Disney+.
