Avatar's James Cameron is Hoping for Avengers Fatigue to Hit Pretty Soon

With the box office filled with movies from Marvel and Star Wars, the words "franchise fatigue" have been thrown around a lot. With the release of Avengers: Endgame, Avatar director James Cameron talks about his hopes that the fatigue will hit soon, and that it's time for Hollywood to tell other stories.

As per IndieWire, Cameron had said that he actually likes the Avengers movies, but hopes that the audiences will look for something else. He says:

"I'm hoping we'll start getting ‘Avenger' fatigue here pretty soon… Not that I don't love the movies. It's just, come on guys, there are other stories to tell besides hyper-gonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process. It's like, oy!"

That's pretty odd considering that Cameron basically helped push this genre with his films like Terminator, Aliens, and Avatar, but he does have a point. Even Nick Fury himself Samuel L. Jackson is urging Marvel fans to watch something else from time to time.

For now, I think the fatigue is not as strong as long as Marvel knows how to pace themselves and is ready to bring in new things to the franchise. I was actually surprised with how Endgame turned out, but Captain Marvel was annoyingly predictable. Hopefully we end up with more risks in the future as compared to Marvel just repeating their formula.

Cameron's next Avatar film comes out next year, but you can catch Avengers: Endgame in theaters now before fatigue sets in.
