Ad Astra: Brad Pitt Stars in New Trailer for Sci-Fi Mystery

After spotlighting in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Brad Pitt is set to star in the main role for James Gray's Ad Astra. A new trailer has dropped for the film, and it teases a sci-fi mystery on the edge of the solar system.

Here's the official description:

Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.

Besides Pitt, the movie also stars the likes of Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Liv Tyler, and Donald Sutherland.

From the get-go, you can already feel a lot of influence from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. There's also a lot of similar visuals from other space films like Interstellar, Moon, and The Martian.

If anything, the film looks to be taking place in the near future. Looking closely, you can see that people already have the use of hologram technology; and it looks like they've built some kind of headquarters on the moon.

I think the film looks interesting, and I'm sure Pitt is going to do a great job. Add to that he's joined by a stellar cast playing out an intriguing story.

Catch James Gray's Ad Astra when it hits theaters Sept. 20.
