Bandai Namco Files a Trademark for a New Katamari Game

A NeoGAF user has reported that video game developer Bandai Namco has registered a trademark for a new Katamari game, called Tap My Katamari. We don't have any more details at this point, but the title suggests that the upcoming game will be for mobile platforms or Playstation Vita. Either way, this will be the first entry in the bizarre Japanese sci-fi series since Touch My Katamari was released for Playstation Vita in 2011.

In the Katamari games, you control the Prince, who must restore the stars to the sky after his father, the King of All Cosmos, destroys them all. To do this, you must roll sticky balls called Katamari around, collecting animals, people, and everyday items, until the ball is big enough to become a star. If that concept doesn't sound extremely Japanese, then I don't know what does. The art style and gameplay mechanics of the Katamari games are quirky and unique, but I think it will translate well to mobile platforms, if that's indeed the direction that Bandai Namco is heading with the new game.
