Avengers: Infinity War Will See the Guardians in a Bigger Role

It's no secret that Avengers: Infinity War will see a culmination of so many stars in one major intergalactic movie. And with several new confirmations for casting from the Guardians of the Galaxy gang including Dave Bautista who has teased his ripped form for Drax, it's not surprising that we're finally hearing where they stand in the entire ensemble.

Director James Gunn has recently spoken with Complex about his movie The Belko Experiment. And within the conversation are hints of the future of the Guardians.

"I don't think we should overstate things that it is an Avengers movie, but the Guardians are part of the cosmic universe, they're part of Thanos' stories, so, they are in there, and they have, not the biggest, but an integral part to that."

Backtracking to the movies, Guardians of the Galaxy was the first movie where Thanos has appeared beyond hints in the post-credits. We know that he's closely tied to two of the characters, Gamora and Nebula, and that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will shine a bigger light into their relationship as sisters. And at the heart of that sisterhood is Thanos, the abusive father.

It would be nice to finally see this particular franchise connect largely into the Avengers universe. Not that they didn't before, but the fact that Thanos was still introduced in passing in the first movie and with only the stones as link—now this will give it a much better standing and positioning in time for Avengers: Infinity War.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be out in theaters on May 5.
