It appears that everyone is really looking forward to the second season of Attack on Titan. And we do mean everyone, since Funimation has just announced that it has already acquired the rights to bring the awaited season sequel to the west.

Announced over Funimation's blog, the company confirmed that it now carries the license to introduced the series to audiences in the U.S. and Canada after it premieres come April 2017.

Funimation has also been the first to bring the series to the west back in 2013 for its first-season run, so it's obvious that it would continue the tradition.

"Attack on Titan became an instant hit since it first streamed in 2013 and we are thrilled to bring fans the long-awaited season 2 of the series. Attack on Titan is truly a worldwide phenomenon that has continued to grow at a no-stop pace. Fans can look forward to an exciting second season."

Also known as Shingeki no Kyojin, Attack on Titan was created by Hajime Isayama. It follows the story of protagonist Eren Jaeger along with his childhood friends and his squadron of fighters who are trying to keep the last of humanity alive from the onslaught of attack form man-eating humanoids called Kyojins (Titans).

Even after the three-year dry spell for the original anime—there have been spin-offs and OVAs—fans are still clamoring to get the next season in place. I personally am looking forward to the second season of Attack on Titan. It's one of the rare anime titles that manages to keep you on your toes with its outrageous pacing and unpredictable next steps. Who "kills" off their hero five episodes in?

We still have a good few months of waiting to go as it will premiere sometime in April next year.
