Aquaman’s Plot Confirmed To Take Place After Justice League

Jason Mamoa's standalone Aquaman film is hitting theaters a year after the dothraki seahorse banters with the rest of the DC Extended Universe's superheroes in Justice League and it looks like the events of the watery superhero movie are going to follow straight after Warner Bros. highly anticipated superhero team-up film.

Speaking in an interview with Cinemablend, DCEU executive producer Charles Roven has just confirmed that Mamoa's move will follow directly after Justice League with the film referencing to events in the superhero team-up movie.

"Aquaman will make reference [to Justice League]. There will be some reference of something that preceded Aquaman that will be in Aquaman. I believe that is the intention."

In the interview, the executive producer also praised Aquaman director for his help in building a cohesive cinematic universe for DC.

"James [Wan] definitely knows where he's going with [Aquaman], and that movie takes place in a world where Justice League happened, and Man of Steel happened, and Wonder Woman obviously takes place before Man of Steel — except for the bookends we have. So that's where we have the most ability to freeform. We could do a movie that takes place after Justice League, we can do a movie that takes place after Batman v Superman… well not really. You can't do a movie in between Batman v Superman and Justice League, but we can do movies that take place after Justice League and we can do movies that precede Justice League."

Though no one is really certain where Warner Bros. will take Aquaman just yet, this new info on the movie does open up the possibility that Arthur Curry may have to deal with the aftermath of the fight with Steppenwolf in Justice League. That, or something even bigger under the sea.

Justice League releases on November 17, 2017 while Aquaman comes swimming into cinemas on Dec. 21, 2018.
