Ant-Man and the Wasp Director Thought Yellowjacket Wasn't a Great Villain Either

Any longtime follower of the MCU knows that the franchise had a problem writing villains, and Yellowjacket from Ant-Man was no exception. Peyton Reed, who directed the first film, and the upcoming sequel, also agrees that Yellowjacket could have been done better.

Talking to io9, Reed explains:

"The villain in that movie felt like a bit of a vestige from the era in which that project was started, [which was] around the time of Iron Man one, where you have an antagonist who has a similar power set [as the hero]. I was hell bent on doing something different."

It is worth noting that Ant-Man was originally director Edgar Wright's project, but he left due to creative differences. Reed took over the film, but to a lot of fans, Wright's shadow was cast heavily over Ant-Man. At least with Ant-Man and the Wasp, Reed now has something to work on that's originally his.

With Avengers: Infinity War being such a heavy film for the MCU, Marvel head Kevin Feige believes that Ant-Man and the Wasp will be the ‘breathe of fresh air' that the fans need right after Thanos. Hopefully the film helps build up to Avengers 4 which comes out next year.

Catch Ant-Man and the Wasp in theaters July 5.
