Ant-Man and the Wasp Director Didn't Want the Characters in Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War promised to be bring together the entirety of the existing Marvel Universe, but it still left out appearances from Ant-Man and the Wasp. As it turns out, Ant-Man director Peyton Reed didn't want the characters in the film.

Talking to IGN, Reed explained that he wanted Wasp to have a proper introduction to the MCU, hence forgoing an earlier appearance to highlight her in a solo movie. He even revealed that she was supposed to appear in Civil War, but they simply couldn't find the proper amount of screentime for the character. He also jokes:

"Whenever these heroes pop up in movies I'm not involved in I get jealous."

With half of the characters gone in Avengers: Infinity War, it's the perfect time to call in the B-listers like Ant-Man, Wasp, and Hawkeye for Avengers 4. We don't know exactly what they'll do in the film, but it would be amazing if we saw everyone in the MCU coming together at one point in the movie.

For now, Ant-Man and the Wasp looks to be a "breather" after the heavy ramifications of Infinity War—much like the first Ant-Man was to Age of Ultron. Let's hope that Peyton Reed manages to deliver with this whole new story.

Ant-Man and the Wasp comes out July 5.
