Ant-Man And The Wasp Director Says The Movie Isn’t A Romantic comedy

Marvel Studio's Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Wasp ( Evangeline Lily) might be a couple, but that doesn't mean that Ant-Man and The Wasp is going to be a comic book romantic comedy.

Sitting down to speak with Empire,Ant-Man and the Wasp director Payton Reed turned down rumos that the upcoming sequel to Marvel's Ant-Man would play around with the superhero genre by turning into a romance comedy.

"It's not a romantic comedy. The idea might enter Hope's brain: does she need Scott Lang in her life?" the director explains. "It was important to me, in this movie called Ant-Man and The Wasp, that she's not a supporting character. She's a lead character. She's become a fully-formed hero."

Sure the film might explore a few romantic elements, but the romance between Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne won't be the sole focus of the film. Ant-Man and the Wasp after all is at its core a superhero film. Though fans believe that Marvel might want to play around with the comic book genre, focusing on romance would just weaken the film's comic book movie element and weaken the Wasp's role as a lead character.

Ant-Man & The Wasp makes its way to the big screen on July 6.
