Ant-Man & The Wasp Will Be Equal Partners In This Year's Sequel

Despite the lack of hype, mostly due to the ongoing coverage of Avengers: Infinity War among other things, Ant-ManandThe Wasp could end up being one of the more interesting installments in the MCU. Much like how the first film was able to blend a heist film with the standard superhero material fans are used to, the sequel will attempt to be a romantic-comedy, while also introducing alternate universes/dimensions.

The sequel is also notable for having The Wasp as a co-lead, making it the first time a female hero has been part of a Marvel film's title. According to Paul Rudd, this isn't just a marketing tactic as Evangeline Lilly's Wasp will be his equal in this year's sequel.

During an interview with Variety about his upcoming film The Catcher Was A Spy, Rudd had this to say about The Wasp's role in the MCU sequel:

"We're very much partners in the film."

In Ant-Man, it was clear that Lilly's Hope Van Dyne was a capable character who could have used the suit just as well as Rudd's Scott Lang, if not better. She actually taught him how to use the suit's powers properly, so she clearly knew her stuff and deserved to be in the spotlight. It's good seeing her get equal billing in the sequel and Rudd's assurance that Van Dyne will be his equal is good to know.

Ant-Man and The Wasp come out on July 6.
