Amber Heard Reveals Major Changes Made To Mera’s Origin In Aquaman

Aquaman is just half a year away from its big debut and it looks like Warner Brothers has slowly been rolling out information about the standalone superhero movie that it's hoping will help turn around the DC Extended Universe.

Not only has the studio been releasing new first look photos, but the Aquaman cast has also been busy revealing new information about the characters that they're playing in the highly anticipated comic book movie. This includes Amber Heard, the actress behind the Atlantean Queen, Mera.

Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Heard has some new details about Mera, giving away key details about the character and changes made to the luscious queen of the sea.

"She's a warrior who was raised by the queen of Atlantis before she passed. We meet Mera after the queen has long since left and she's been raised to take over as queen her whole life," the actress told the publication. "She's been raised to serve her kingdom and rule over Atlantis with King Orm (Patrick Wilson)."

Mera has had a long history in DC comics, and this new description by Mera reveals a major and surprising chance to her origin story. Though she often butts heads with Arthur Curry (Jason Mamoa), Mera's origin story in the comic books has always been tied to Aquaman. However, it seems like the DCEU is going to have the Queen start with Aquaman's brother, the Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson).

Though we're fairly certain that Mera will somehow end up with Aquaman by the end of the film (or somewhere else in the DCEU), we have no idea how exactly Mera will switch sides. Let's wait and see.

Aquaman premieres December 21, 2018.
