Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti Leave Harley Quinn

Thanks to the writing of married couple Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti, Harley Quinn is one of the most popular comic books DC is publishing. It breathed new life into the New 52, is constantly selling well in monthly charts, and continued being a success when it was relaunched for DC Rebirth. This is why it's shocking to find out that Conner and Palmiotti are leaving the title, with their last issue slated for a December 20 release.

Conner and Palmiotti confirmed that they were ending their four-year run on Harley Quinn to the Washington Post. Their last issue will be Harley Quinn #34, which looks like it will be ending in tragedy if the cover means anything.

Both writers are planning to take a vacation and get to know each other better since it seems like they have been working together non-stop on the book. Artist John Timms is also leaving the series.

"We just felt like maybe it's a good time to take a break, take a step back, go on a honeymoon, maybe spend some of the money we made on each other and get to know each other," Palmiotti said. "We love this character, but we felt like, a lot of times you work on books and the sales drop and the character isn't popular anymore. With [Harley Quinn] we figured, well, let's take a nice break while the character is essentially as hot as ever."

Both writers were quick to point out that a return in the future is very possible. Conner, who provides cover art for the series along with co-writing, is hoping to provide interior art for the series in the future. She will be staying on as the series' cover artist, but won't be co-writing it for a while.

It's clear that the two poured a lot of love on the character. Not only did they write four years worth of ongoing stories, but they were also involved with a number of one-shots and mini-series'. Conner even drew some of these stories, most notably Harley's team up with Wonder Woman in the first issue of Harley's Little Black Book.

Frank Tieri will take over writing duties, starting with January's Harley Quinn #35. Tieri previously co-wrote Harley Quinn and her Gang of Harleys with Palmiotti so he should be a fitting replacement. Artist Inaki Miranda will replace John Timms.
