Alien: Covenant’s Space Rover Mission is a Cool Movie Prop Idea

When was the last time you saw a cool and iconic prop or tech go from beyond a movie's storyline into the real world?

This is exactly what Alien: Covenant is trying to do with its Moon rover Audi lunar Quattro. The tech will be part of the movie—but more than that, it's expected to actually go on a real mission to the moon.

For those who are wondering, Audi has actually developed the rover together with German startup company Part-Time Scientists. Alien: Covenant director Ridley Scott included it in the latest Alien movie, where it was part of the Covenant mission.

"Fox's partnership with Audi on Alien: Covenant is an opportunity to bring to the forefront the innovative work Audi is doing in exploration. We're happy to continue our long relationship with Audi that has allowed our filmmakers to incorporate authentic, leading-edge technology into their futuristic worlds."

The Audi lunar Quattro will be going on an actual mission to the moon. It boasts quite the workmanship and technology—85% aluminum body, 3D metal-printed body with pivoting solar panel and intelligent technology for an e-tron motor.

This is not just a cool piece of advanced gear, but considering that it's headed for its own navigation and mission, it's a cool way to advance the exploration in space—both onscreen and beyond.

Alien: Covenant will be out in theaters on May 18.

Synopsis:
In Alien: Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world—whose sold inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
