Alien: Covenant Brings Back the Xenomorph With New Monsters

Ridley Scott's touted film Alien: Covenant has already released in some areas to glowing reviews. And while the director himself didn't feel that Prometheus was his best work, he does seem to bring up the pace and everything that he wants with this new movie.

For starters, the xenomorph is back, a move that he feels corrected their mistake in Prometheus. Speaking to SciFi Now, Scott revealed:

"I realized in Prometheus they really do miss the big guy! The alien, they do miss the death stuff and they do miss things like that and so without any question, we've reintroduced him in a very organic and clever way. But there are others as well that come to visit."

This means that more monsters will be showcased in the movie, one that Scott admits was a challenge during production. Since the introduced new monsters, this means designing them, and he aptly describes the experience as "murder." Scott says that it's easier to make people laugh than to scare them, hence the harder it is to design these creatures.

"I think the reason why the first Alien hung in so well immediately was because it was so unique and so different. And one would put that entirely at the feet of HR Giger, I spotted it and insisted on it. There were variations of things that he had to design, which were the egg, the chestbuster, and the facehugger."

Alien: Covenant seemed like the kind of movie that not only thrived with good design, but also the good use of practical effects. Scott showed his respect for the green screen, but differentiated that having a monster come at actors and connecting with them the way a green screen can't is a big thing.

Based on reactions for Alien: Covenant, it seems like Scott is on the right track towards going back to the scare-fest franchise that was Alien.

Alien: Covenant is already showing in theaters. It stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Demian Bichir, and Noomi Rapace.
