Action Comics #1000 Gives Superman His Red Trunks Back

DC has revealed more details about Action Comics #1000 and they will make Superman fans very happy. As part of his "new" design, Superman's red trunks will be a part of his costume again. Fans haven't seen Superman don these since the New 52 began, though some would argue that we saw them in 2015, thanks to the version of the character in Convergence: Superman, who ended up replacing the rebooted version.

We have our first look at the "new" costume below and it's nice to see. Jim Lee provided the updated design of the character, so it's no surprise why Superman looks so darn cool in this milestone cover, despite wearing the trunks that fans either love or hate. Here's what Lee had to say about the return of the red trunks:

"Action Comics #1000 represents a watershed moment in the history of not just comic books, but entertainment, literature and pop culture. There's no better way to celebrate Superman's enduring popularity than to give him a look that combines some new accents with the most iconic feature of his classic design."

Newsarama has also revealed the creative teams for the massive comic, confirming reports that Brian Michael Bendis would be writing his first DC work on this issue, with art from Jim Lee. Dan Jurgens will write and draw a 15-page story, while Peter Tomasi and Pat Gleason work on a 15-page story of their own. Here are the other creative teams:

Richard Donner/Geoff Johns/Oliver Coipel, Paul Dini/José Luis García-López, Tom King/Clay Mann/Jordie Bellaire, Brad Meltzer/John Cassaday/Laura Martin, Louise Simonson/Jerry Ordway, Scott Snyder/Tim Sale, and Marv Wolfman writing a new story based on unpublished art by the late Curt Swan.

Action Comics #1000 comes out in April.
