A Mystique Standalone Film Can Still Happen

20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise is probably one of the longest superhero franchises that's currently dominating the box office. That said, it's intriguing why the studio has only chosen Hugh Jackman's Wolverine from the First Class trilogy to have a solo outing.

Well, now it seems like X-Men: Apocalypse has pondered this as well, and if there's a solo X-Men film he wants to see, it's going to be Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique.

During a recent appearance on the Empire podcast, the filmmaker said:

People have asked if I'd do a stand-alone [movie about Mystique]. I think she's right. . . . She has that view of the world.

It's worth noting that X-Men writer Simon Kinberg has also mentioned the same sentiment for a Mystique spin-off. He once told Entertainment Weekly at a time when X-Men: Days of Future Past was in the process of being released:

I love what Jen Lawrence has done with Mystique, and I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, there's so much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo.

It's not surprising that Singer and Kinberg wants to see Lawrence get more spotlight, considering what she's brought to the character, as well as her ability to draw in audiences in the box office. In addition, the 25-year-old actress has said in a previous interview that she's "dying to come back" to the franchise now that her contract is over.

That said, she did reveal in another interview how she's not willing to come back unless James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult are in that project as well. This means if there is to be a Mystique spin-off, Magneto, Professor X, and Beast will also be likely in it. There's also the possibility that this theory that her relationship with Nightcrawler could be explored in a solo film.

Do you think having a Mystique solo film is a good idea?

Meanwhile, you can catch Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique in X-Men: Apocalypse, now in theaters.
