4 More Avatar Movies To Come, Their Release Dates Announced
Finally! After almost seven years of no word about the 2009 Academy Award-winning movie, Avatar, director James Cameron himself has announced that the franchise will be expanding further. Not only that, their release dates have also been revealed.
The 61-year-old filmmaker made the announcement during 20th Century Fox’s CinemaCon presentation on Thursday.
We’ve begun to bump up against the limitations of our art form. There’s just too much story.
The Academy Award-winning director announced exactly four Avatar sequels, as well as the Christmas release schedule for each one of them.
The yet-to-be titled sequels and their release dates are as follows:
> Avatar 2: Christmas 2018
> Avatar 3: Christmas 2020
> Avatar 4: Christmas 2022
> Avatar 5: Christmas 2023
Cameron also revealed a bit more detail about the films, saying:
Each one of which stands alone but which together form a complete saga.
Towards the end of the presentation, Cameron released some concept art for the films too, showing tons of green and blue, and according to EW, a swimming alien turtle.
It looks like Avatar fans’ Christmases will be very merry in the next couple of years.
While the announcement, as well as the release of Avatar 2, seems to have taken too long, I’m supposing creating a film that aims to match the calibre of its predecessor will need a longer process to make than usual Hollywood films. Hopefully, Cameron has created something worthwhile and as great as the first Avatar.
It might still be two years from now since Avatar 2 will be released, but I’m already feeling positive and excited about the potential of the sequels. I can’t wait to see them!
