The Visual Effects Society announced the winneers of its annual awards show yesterday, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens and HBO's Game of Thrones won four awards each.
While The Force Awakens was praised for its practical effects, the VES Awards focused mainly on the Millennium Falcon/TIE Fighter sequence and the fan-favorite droid, BB-8. It took won awards in the photoreal feature project categories for Outstanding Effects, Outstanding Created Envonment (Falcon Chase/Graveyard), Oustanding Cinematography (Falcon Chase/Graveyard), and Oustanding Model (BB-8).
HBO's Game of Thrones won four awards in the photoreal broadcast categories Outstanding Visual Effects ("The Dance of Dragons"), Outstanding Created Environment (The City of Volantis), Outstanding Effects Simulation ("Hardhome").
Disney/Pixar's The Good Dinosaur won the following animated feature categories: Outstanding Visual Effects, Outstanding Created Environment, and Outstanding Effects Simulations.
