22 Most Highly-Anticipated Star Wars Projects in 2019

2019 is going to be a great year for Star Wars. There will be new Star Wars TV shows, a new movie, games, a major convention, a theme park addition, comic books, and novels coming this year, and here's Epicstream's list of the most highly-anticipated Star Wars projects to look forward to. 

  1. Mechanical Mayhem

    From IDW Publishing, Mechanical Mayhem is a kid-friendly series of droid tales about Artoo and Threepio's misadventures. It will be released on March 12.

  2. Obi-Wan #1

    Marvel

    Marvel is releasing a series of standalone comics as part of the prequel-era Age of the Republic series written by Jody Houser with art by Cory Smith and Luke Ross. Obi-Wan Kenobi story is already out and it focuses on the veteran Jedi, who's still getting used to Padawan trainee Anakin Skywalker as they search for an ancient holocron artifact. 

  3. Padme Amidala #1

    Marvel Comics

    Written by Jody Houser with art by Cory Smith, Padme Amidala #1 follows Senator Padme Amidala's secret mission to bring a neutral world into the Republic fold. Is this a real offer of alliance, or just a trap for Padme? And will rejecting the help of the Jedi be a big mistake? 

    Padme Amidala #1 will be released on March 6. 

  4. Count Dooku #1

    Marvel Comics

     

    Count Dooku #1 written by Jody Houser with art by Luke Ross puts the spotlight on Christopher Lee's fallen Jedi in which he must hide his new allegiance when confronted by an old student.

    will be released on February 13. 

     

  5. Anakin Skywalker #1

    Marvel Comics

    Written by Jody Houser with art by Wilton Santos and Cory Smith, Anakin Skywalker #1 tells a new story of the man-who-would-be-Vader as he grapples with a decision that could devastate the Separatists but come at a high moral cost. 

    Anakin Skywalker #1 will be released on February 6. 

  6. Jango Fett #1

    Marvel Comics

    In Jango Fett #1 by Houser and Ross. the most feared bounty hunter and his son, Boba, join with a crew of outlaws for a simple job that goes bad fast. It looks like his fellow bounty hunters might be foolish enough to betray them. 

    This comic was released on January 9. 

  7. Vader: Dark Visions #1

    Marvel Comics

    This five-part series from writer Dennis "Hopeless" Hallum with art by Paolo Vinelli sheds new light on the many sides of Darth Vader. Dark Visions #1 promises to explore corners of the galaxy  “Darth Vader can be someone’s greatest fear, and even … someone’s greatest hope!” It will be released on March 6. 

  8. General Grievous #1

    Marvel Comics

    In this Star Wars: Age of the Republic comic written by Jody Houser with art by Luke Ross, General Grievous stumbles across a power greater than what he imagined as he explores a lost Jedi temple. After General Grievous #1, Marvel changes pace for Age of Republic series for the back half of the year, with stories focusing on Darth Vader, Leia Organa, and others. 

    General Grievous #1 will be out March 13. 

  9. C-3PO Does NOT Like Sand!

    Written by Caitlin Kennedy and illustrated by Brian Kesinger, this kid-friendly story follows the golden protocol droid who hates sand just like Anakin Skywalker. His longtime droid friend R2-D2 and BB-8 return to visit Tatooine while on a mission for the Resistance. 

    C-3PO Does NOT Like Sand! will be released on June 4. 

  10. Industrial Light & Magic Presents: Making Solo by Rob Bredow

    Here's an inside look at how the brilliant visual effects company created new creatures, starships, and planets for last year's standalone prequel film. 

    The book unveils everything from the merging of digital animation, the Conveyex train heist, and Phoebe Walter-Bridge's role as droid L3-37.

    This will be available on April 16. 

  11. Star Wars: Age of the Republic Special #1

    Marvel Comics

    This trilogy features stories about Sith huntress Asajj Ventress (by Houser), Windu (by Old Man Hawkeye writer Ethan Sacks), and Captain Rex (by Young X-Men writer Marc Guggenheim). A story about Jar Jar Binks, hinted at this cover, has reportedly been removed from the Jan. 16 release. 

  12. Star Wars: Resistance Season 1 Finale

    The final Season 1 episodes of Star Wars: Resistance on the Disney channel will be out this year. The anime-style cartoon show, set to return on January 13, will be about Kaz Xiono (voiced by Christopher Sean), a Resistance pilot who has gone undercover on a refueling station to spy on the FIrst Order. The Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood will return as the vengeful racer Jace Rucklin. 

  13. Star Wars Celebration — Chicago

    This gathering of thousands in Chicago is expected to reveal new details about Lucasfilm and Disney's upcoming Star Wars films and TV shows. You can get your tickets to the April 11-15 event in the Windy City now. 

  14. Master & Apprentice by Claudia Gray

    Claudia Gray, the author of the Senator Leia Organa book Bloodline, wrote this upcoming Star Wars novel that will be released on April 26. 

    Here's the synopsis: “An unexpected offer threatens the bond between Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi as the two Jedi navigate a dangerous new planet and an uncertain future.” 

  15. The Queen’s Shadow by E.K. Johnston

    When Queen Amidala steps down as ruler of Naboo she takes the newly-elected queen's request that she continue serving the planet as a galactic senator. Written by Ahsoka author E.K. Johnston, this novel follows Padme and her ladies working together to face the dangers of galactic diplomacy. It will be released on March 5. 

  16. Vader Immortal (virtual reality experience)

    ILMxLAB

    Vader Immortal is a virtual reality experience that will be released for the $399 Oculus Quest, and will be available this spring. The immersive game was developed by ILMxLAB, and was executive produced and written by The Dark Knight screenwriter David S. Goyer. The virtual reality experience will let players journey to Vader's castle on the lava world of Mustafar and encounter the Sith Lord on his treacherous territory. 

  17. Thrawn: Treason by Timothy Zahn

    In the 1990s, Timothy Zahn revitalized Star Wars with his trilogy of post-Jedi novels featuring the blue-skinned fan-favorite villain, Thrawn, but since Disney acquired Lucasfilm, those books were no longer considered canon. However, Zahn has revamped the character again with a series of canonical books, beginning with the 2017 origin story Thrawn, the 2018 Alliances, and this upcoming novel in which Grand Admiral Thrawn hopes to find a place in the Empire while the Death Star is being constructed. 

    Thrawn: Treason will be released on July 23. 

  18. Galaxy's Edge at Disney theme parks

    Galaxy's Edge will open at Disneyland in Anaheim, California this summer and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida in the fall. Fans can join the space battle aboard a First Order starship in the Rise of the Resistance and pilot the fastest ship in the galaxy in Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run

  19. The Clone Wars Season 7

    Clone Wars, the beloved animated series from executive producer Dave Filoni, may have come to an end five years ago when Lucasfilm when canceled the series to focus on new Star Wars stories but Disney+ streaming service has just commissioned 12 new episodes featuring the adventures of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka Tano. 

  20. Star Wars: Fallen Order game

    Here's another Star Wars interactive game from Electronic Arts, which produced the recent Battlefront reboot, and its Respawn Entertainment division, known for the Titanfall games. According to EA, the game will focus on a Padawan trainee who survived the Jedi massacre seen in Revenge of the Sith. Sadly, no release date has been announced yet but it will probably be released before the holiday season. 

  21. Star Wars: Episode IX

    Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams is back to helm the final installment of the new Skywalker saga trilogy. Although the official title and trailer haven't been revealed yet, we know that Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill will return in some form as the Master Jedi, and unused footage of Carrie Fisher will be shown to conclude Leia Organa's story. Billy Dee Williams will also return to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian. 

    Episode IX hits theaters on Dec. 20. 

  22. The Mandalorian

    The Mandalorian is a limited TV series from the filmmaker of Iron Man, Jon Favreau, and will kick off Disney+ streaming service (no launch date yet). The series will star Game of Thrones and Narcos actor Pedro Pascal as the masked gunslinger in a story set after the fall of the Empire in Return of the Jedi. The series will also star Nick Nolte, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, and Carl Weathers. It's expected to be released later this year.
