This Life-Size Replica of AT-ST from Star Wars is Astounding

The All Terrain Scout Transport (AT-ST) walkers featured in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi may have been annoying as hell during the Battle of Endor, but you have to admit that its design and machinery is probably one of the most creative machines things to have been featured in the Star Wars saga.

You might be thinking such a massive robot could not be created by a single individual. Well, there’s a genius fan who has proven that notion as entirely wrong. The replica stands at over 27 feet tall and is made of timber, plastic, and bits of scrap metal. Inside, it has two seats, complete with a “functional” chin-mounted laser cannon, with the cannon able to be moved up and down and having its own "pew pew" noises.

It’s not even recent. This genius fan has created his own life-size replica of an AT-ST walker over eight months ago.

The AT-ST walker first popped up on Imgur last year. A user named Mr. Kernish posted photos (h/t The Verge) of the Imperial walker from afar.

Months later, Mr. Kernish found the courage to ask the creator for a tour.

Mr. Kernish recalled:

I walked onto the propriety [sic] and spoke to the engineer. He didn't wish to be identified so I'll refer to him as Kuat.

Apparently, Kuat was able to build the life-size AT-ST by getting all his specs from the internet. The cockpit can be accessed via a ladder at the back. There are also two solar panels that power its cannons.

Meanwhile, inside the AT-ST is the circuit boards and random gadgets.

Kuat said the AT-ST is a "Tempest Scout 2," as identified on its custom-made plate. This makes his replica the scout walker hijacked by Chewbacca and the Ewoks during the Battle of Endor. The Star Wars reference doesn’t stop at the model itself. Inside the AT-ST is an Imperial propaganda poster as well as an affixed lightsaber beside the emergency stop button.

What’s really amazing about this AT-ST and its creator is how it was created as a spur of the moment thing. Kuat said he built the giant because he just felt “like building a life-size replica of an AT-ST."

The fact that Kuat didn’t want to be named makes this replica all the more glorious. It was created out of passion for Star Wars and the intent of proving to one’s self that building an AT-ST is not impossible. Kuat’s AT-ST just proved that passion and drive can take us anywhere.

The Force is certainly strong in Kuat.
