We’ve witnessed a lot of crazy fan theories about Rey’s origins, so we’re not to shy away from a new theory about Rey’s parents, especially considering foundations set in the Star Wars canon.

The new theory that has popped up is from Reddit user Beeslo, who claims that Marvel Comics’ in-canon Shattered Empire, set between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, explains the origins of Rey’s true parents.

The theory goes as follows:

> A crack pilot named Shara Bey is recruited by Luke Skywalker to rescue the remaining Force-sensitive trees that were found in the past inside the court of the old Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

> Luke and Shara Bey finds two trees, one of which is kept by Luke and the other was given to Shara by the Jedi Master.
> Shara plants it outside her home on Yavin 4, where she resides with husband Kes Dameron. (Yes, he is Poe Dameron’s father.)
> The theory went on to suggest that the tree explains Poe Dameron's exceptional flying skills and Rey’s extraordinary Force powers. Apparently, Poe and Rey are siblings.

Personally, I’m not entirely convinced with this theory and I’m not so sure how it, despite being based on the Shattered Empire comics, fully explains how Rey was born to Poe Dameron’s parents. In fact, I find this theory of Rey being a descendant of Palpatine even more convincing.

Other theories about Rey’s origins – both crazy and believable –  that have circulated the internet include Rey being a reincarnation of Anakin Skywalker and Rey being the daughter of Luke and Leia.

Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait until Episodes VIII and IX to find out where Rey truly came from.

Meanwhile, if you’re itching to find out whether this Shattered Empire-based theory has any grounding, you can check out the Star Wars: Shattered Empire for yourself.

Star Wars: Episode VIII hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
