6 Things We Learned From the First Avengers: Endgame Trailer

Fans have practically been waiting since the closing moments of Avengers: Infinity War to get their first glimpse at the fourth chapter of the Marvel Studios franchise. Now, all that patience has finally paid off in the form of the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame.

However, while many superhero movie trailers leave us with more questions than answers, this one was relatively concise in its presentation, giving us just enough footage to wet our whistles without revealing too much.

With that in mind, here are six things we learned from the first Avengers: Endgame trailer:

  1. Tony’s Post-Infinity War Fate

When we last saw Tony Stark, he and Nebula were left stranded on Thanos’ homeworld of Titan. Well, we assumed they were stranded, but apparently, the pair was able to fix up Nebula’s ship that she crash-landed on top of her father and leave that desolate wasteland. Not that it appears to have done a whole lot of good, though, because according to Tony, they’re out of food and water, and there’s only enough oxygen to last until the next morning. If only there was a cosmic hero that could save them… maybe some sort of Captain that we’ll be seeing on the big screen in March…

  2. Thanos Is Still Reeling From His Injuries

Thanos may have succeeded in his mission to wipe out half of all sentient life in the universe, but it came at a hefty cost. Not only did the Infinity Gauntlet leave his arm charred but he also had to endure the wrath of Thor and Stormbreaker. When we see Thanos in the trailer, he still seems to be suffering the consequences, as we see him walking with a slight limp and his arm looks to be no better than it was at the end of Infinity War.

  3. Shuri Is Among the Dead

When Thanos snapped his fingers in Infinity War, we saw the deaths of a handful of major characters. Naturally, though, the film didn’t show every Infinity Gauntlet-related death on-screen. Still, it came as quite a surprise when the trailer revealed that Shuri was one of Thanos’ victims. After her show-stealing performance in Black Panther, one could argue that she cemented her status as a major MCU character, so to find out that she died off-camera is nothing short of shocking.

  4. Hawkeye Is Now Ronin

To be fair, we’ve known for quite some time that Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton would be shedding his Hawkeye persona in favor of Ronin. Nevertheless, the trailer is the first time we officially see him sporting his comics-accurate Ronin attire and wielding a sword instead of a bow and arrow. It’s also worth noting that, based on the way Cap’s voiceover is spliced with the shot, it’s implied that Clint adopted the Ronin mantle because his family, who we met in Avengers: Age of Ultron, died in the Decimation. It would certainly make sense from a narrative perspective, but it remains to be seen if that’s truly the case.

  5. The Film’s Subtitle Is ‘Endgame’

The only things fans have been waiting for longer than the Avengers 4 trailer is the reveal of the film’s full title. Originally, the third and fourth films were going to be Avengers: Infinity War Parts I and II, but once the Russos declared they were two distinct projects, no one knew what to expect. That soon changed when Infinity War hit theaters, though, at which time the proverbial floodgates opened and fan theories began pouring out. Surprisingly enough, the most prominent candidate, Avengers: Endgame, turned out to be correct, as evidenced by the final title card.

  6. It’s Coming Out in April

Although Avengers: Infinity War was slated to arrive on May 4 of this year, Marvel Studios moved it up by one week, giving it an April 27 release date instead. Now, it appears the same thing is happening with Avengers: Endgame. While the film was scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, we’ll be getting this one a full week earlier as well.

Avengers: Endgame hits theaters April 26, 2019.
