24 Weird Places People Have Found Pokemon in Pokemon GO

Pokemon GO is incredibly popular, so it’s probably not that surprising to hear that people have been posting all the bizarre places they’ve been finding Pokemon, Pokestops and Pokemon Gyms. The various Pokestops and gyms are based off a previous game, Ingress, where players had to capture “portals” at culturally significant landmarks. Pokemon GO reusing Ingress locations leads to uncomfortable things like Pokemon showing up at the Holocaust Museum, but it can also lead to real wildness, weirdness and hilarity. So let’s look at some of the weirdest Pokemon GO locations out there!

  1. Magikarp Everywhere

    Image: ReallyBadCafe

Finding the flopping fish Pokemon is one of the most amusing Pokemon Go discoveries. Several users have found Magikarp flopping around in their shower or gasping in the middle of the road. Magikarp even popped up in one user’s frying pan. Mmmm, tasty.

  2. Toilet Pokemon

When you gotta go, you gotta Pokemon GO! Privacy is a thing of the past because many Pokemon GO players have found Pokemon sitting on their toilets or even popping up as they do their business. One user decided to politely wait until the Pokemon was done, but others are taken aback by the intruders. It is kind of creepy to know that whenever you go to the bathroom, there might be invisible Pokemon watching you…

  3. At the 9/11 Memorial Pool

Another weird Pokestop was the 9/11 Memorial pool in lower Manhattan. User Erica H. posted about it on Twitter. I wouldn’t want to wade in there to search for Pokemon.

  4. On Daunting Racetracks

The  Nürburgring is a famous and intense racetrack located in the German town for which it is named. You can get more information about it here. YouTuber Boosted Boris decided he’d blast along the racetrack in a Ring Taxi, catching Pokemon as he went. You can see it in the video above.

  5. At the White House and the Senate

The White House is a Pokemon gym. This was discovered people saw the gym Blastoise defending the White House gym went viral. Is it Obama’s Pokemon? (And yes, the “Brock Obama” joke has been made.) Or is it Michelle, Biden or one of his daughters? We’ll probably never know.

However, whoever the Pokemon belonged to, they were defeated. Jesus Rodriguez trained hard with a Pidgeot he named MERICA and dethroned the Blastoise. He changed his Pidgeot’s name to THANKS OBAMA when he finally won.

But the battle for the White House Gym is tough and ownership basically constantly changes. Rodriguez has admitted he can’t keep up, but has changed his strategy. “Team Mystic was mocking [Team Valor] by capturing the Senate and saying the President can’t do anything without the Senate’s authority. Soooo I took that building too,” he says.

  6. At the Pentagon

The Pentagon also has a Pokemon gym and it’s being protected by…a Snorlax, the laziest Pokemon. Users who posted news of the gym on twitter also included biting political commentary:

The Playboy Mansion has a gym too, where you can get all the sexy Pokemon you want. According to tweets, Team Mystic is currently running that empire. I wonder if there are any rabbit Pokemon?

  8. At a Murder House

    Image: Potato Joe

Don’t go into Murder House. That is, unless Pokemon GO says to go into Murder House. Tumblr user Potato Joe posted a picture of one of the Pokestops they were led to…the Susan Russell House, which was the site of three brutal murders within the first 70 years people lived in it (It was built around 1830). It’s considered to be one of the most haunted places in Massachusetts.

  9. On Top of a Coffin

Pokemon really have no respect for the dead, apparently. This fan who posted a pic of Squirtle squatting at a funeral might not be that respectful either:

Sup dudes, I'm hella bored rn so i thought i may aswell play pokemon - Knzy pic.twitter.com/OzqC4MKNBA

Even war can’t stop the quest to catch Pokemon apparently. Louis Park posted a picture of himself hunting Pokemon on Facebook…while battling Isis. The 26-year-old soldier is stationed in Iraq and working with Christian militia group the Dwehk Nawsha. People were less weirded out by Pokemon on the warfront and more weirded out by the fact there was a squirtle in the desert. Park explained that it was one of his starter Pokemon.

  11. In Court

Objection! Pokemon are brushing up on the law, as users have found several Pokemon while in court. It does make the prospect of jury duty a little brighter. I say it’s only a matter of time before we get the Pokemon/Ace Attorney crossover I’ve always wanted.

  12. On People's Crotches

This feels a bit weird, however I obviously want to catch a Magicarp #PokemonGOpic.twitter.com/RQZaT4HjPD

Pokemon really need to learn about personal space. Several fans have noticed Pokemon chilling on their own crotches or on the crotches of others. It makes catching them pretty awkward.

  13. Sex Toy Shops and Strip Clubs

Looks like there's a PokeStop at the strip club by work. Don't think this stop was meant for all ages... #PokemonGOpic.twitter.com/PDdLh0gKsa

There have been Pokestops at several places not exactly appropriate for all ages, including places where people get their sexytime on. A Pokestop was found at a strip club called Golddiggers and a redditor called Memefund found a Pokestop at Kiss-N-Tell, “Fair Oak’s premiere anal plug selection!”

  14. At Graveyards

A couple of Pokemon GO players thought their local Pokemon Gym might be located in a strip club, but the truth ended up being far more haunting- it was graveyard! This might be a real life version of Lavender Town, the town first seen in Pokemon: Red and Blue that is also a Pokemon graveyard.

  15. At a Gay Bathhouse

Image: Pokemon GO, Gizmodo user Homosensual

There’s also a Pokestop at a gay bathhouse called “Flex” in Los Angeles. Westboro Baptist Church need to stop trying to use Pokemon as a mascot, it’s pretty clear Pokemon GO is down with the gay community. Pokemon inclusivity!

  16. At the Church of Scientology

The Church of Scientology has finally proven its usefulness by being a PokeStop. #PokemonGOpic.twitter.com/s19m9xUXUk

The Church of Scientology may believe in aliens, but do they believe in Pokemon? Well, their faith is going to be tested either way, because the Church of Scientology is indeed a Pokestop.

  17. With a Dead Rat

Help! Which one should I caught first? #PokemonGOpic.twitter.com/MguzDZjFap

You can catch an actual dead animal with your Pokemon, as this picture of Rattata with dead rat proves. Did Rattata kill this rat to prove his dominance? Or is he mourning his fallen comrade?

  18. Among Tampons

Caught this guy in Kroger this morning. Not five minutes later, four boys hurry past me with their phones out. I called out "Go Team Blue" as they went by. Pokemon GO: Conquering guys' fear of feminine products one Fearow at a time. #pokemongo #teammystic #gottacatchemall
A photo posted by Nellie Shovett (@nellieshovett) on Jul 11, 2016 at 7:14am PDT

Nellieshovett from Instagram caught a Pokemon in the menstrual supplies section of a Kroger. The user noted that Pokemon is helping break down the masculine distaste for tampons as two guys happily rushed into the aisle to bag some Pokemon.

  19. On Someone's Hospital Bed

    Image: WastedJoe

A Redditor called WastedJoe was playing Pokemon GO in the hospital and felt it was a bit ominous when the ghost Pokemon Ghastly arrived to leer at him. “Not a great sign”, he admitted. Pokemon also showed up while a woman was giving birth

  20. The Training Ground for The New York Jets

The New York Jets posted pics of a Squirtle they found on their training grounds on Twitter. The real question now is if it will join the team.

  21. At This Guy's House

Living in an old church means many things. Today it means my house is a Pokémon Go gym. This should be fascinating.
    — Boon Sheridan (@boonerang)
    July 9, 2016

Some poor guy’s house ended up being a Pokemon gym. A Massachusetts man called Boon Sheridan lives in a house that was formerly a church and was surprised to find this meant that his house was an important gym. He’s had tons of people milling into his backyard. He’s taking it pretty well though, saying he wants to construct a sign that says “train well, play with honor, leave as friends or something equally cornball” and hoping that visitors will tweet a hello to him.

He also notes that, like with many gym locations, you can enter the gym without actually entering his yard and chill across the street instead. He does worry that all the people walking up, lingering and then moving on could make his place look like a “dealer’s house.”

  22. With the Police at a Protest

This Pokemon game is realistic as hell. #OPD on the protest line like #oaklandshutitdown#PokemonGOpic.twitter.com/SLoCx94Vsx
    — teagan (@twidx)
    July 8, 2016

Is the Pinsir standing with the police during the protest or is it preparing to attack them? We just don’t know, but we do know that one definitely showed up during what was likely an Occupy Oakland protest.

“Occupy Oakland” is a group standing against the anti-homeless ordinances in Oakland, California, along with other economic policies that put poor people at a disadvantage.

  23. On some Chicken McNuggets

Better run before you end up like the rest of your family... #pokemongopic.twitter.com/iGMDGFIBRw

    July 7, 2016

Poor Pidgey doesn’t even realize he’s among fallen friends. Or maybe he does and wants to engage in some cannibalism. Twitter user PeteyPlastic noted the little guy was resting peacefully on his McDonald’s Chicken Nuggets.

  24. In Food and Drink

"Excuse me waiter, there's a Goldeen in my water cup." #PokemonGopic.twitter.com/qdzby1x63A

Several users have discovered Pokemon in their food and drink. A Twitter user found a Goldeen in their water glass. People have also found Pokemon among their food, too. Don’t eat them, just catch them!
