12 Questions We Have After Watching Spider-Man: Far From Home

WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers for Spider-Man: Far From Home, now in theaters.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is now one film stronger with the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home. However, unlike Homecoming, this film opens countless cans of worms and leaves no stone unturned in terms of raising questions about the future of not just Spidey but the MCU as a whole.

Follow along with us as we go into detail about the 12 questions we have after watching Spider-Man: Far From Home:

  1. Is Cap Actually Dead?

Far From Home begins with a hilariously amateur video package honoring Earth’s Mightiest heroes who perished in the battle against Thanos. Among them is Black Widow, The Vision, Iron Man and… Captain America?

In Endgame, we learned Cap stayed in the past after returning the Infinity Stones, lived out a long and happy life with Peggy Carter and reemerged in the present as an old man. That being said, is his “death” just a cover that’s being used to appease the public, or has he actually died in the time since Endgame?

  2. What’s Up With Flash?

Flash Thompson has been many things in the comics: bully, hero, Venom. In Far From Home, though, he seems to be headed on a path to redemption.

Flash may hate Peter but he absolutely loves Spider-Man, which is an admirable quality. What’s more, he was even given a nice moment of sympathy when he learns his father was unable (or perhaps unwilling) to pick him up from the airport, despite nearly dying on multiple occasions while in Europe.

Could the Flash Thompson we see in the next Spider-Man film be less of a bully to Peter and more of a friend?

  3. Was That S.W.O.R.D.?

In the post-credits scene, we learn the Nick Fury and Maria Hill on Earth were actually the Skrulls from Captain Marvel, Talos and Soren. Furthermore, the real Nick Fury was in space with a bunch of Skrulls doing… something.

Was this the MCU’s version of S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department), S.H.I.E.L.D.’s intergalactic offshoot from the comics?

  4. Who Else Is a Skrull?

Speaking of Skrulls, by revealing Nick Fury and Maria Hill weren’t who they appeared to be, one can’t help but wonder: who else is a Skrull?

The possibilities are endless, and Marvel just gave itself the ultimate “Get Out of Jail Free” card in terms of potential retcons moving forward.

  5. How Long Has Talos Been Covering for Nick Fury?

Our last question about Skrulls is simply, how long have Talos and Soren been posing as Nick Fury and Maria Hill? Was that them who were dusted at the end of Avengers: Infinity War?

  6. Does Nick Fury Know He’s Mace Windu?

And now, our last Nick Fury question.

When Fury’s talking to Peter, he mentions Peter might not know what Tony’s final message means because it’s not a Star Wars reference. In the Star Wars universe, though, Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury in the MCU, plays Mace Windu.

    How... how does that work?

  7. Did the Film Set Up The Chameleon & Kraven the Hunter?

In Far From Home, we meet a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent named Dimitri Smerdyakov. In the comics, Dmitri Smerdyakov (slightly different spelling) is the alter ego of the villain known as The Chameleon, who’s also the half-brother of Sergei Kravinoff, aka Kraven the Hunter.

That being said, did Far From Home just set up The Chameleon and Kraven’s eventual arrival in the MCU?

  8. IS There a Multiverse?

Although Mysterio claimed to be from an alternate dimension, we eventually learn he – much like his comic book counterpart – is a massive liar. Still, does that mean the idea of the Multiverse is completely off the table?

  9. What Was Mysterio’s Endgame?

Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, was a former Stark Industries employee whose life’s work was hijacked by Tony Stark and given a hilariously bad name. It’s because of this that Beck decides to use his tech and a fabricated backstory to stage monster attacks and play the hero so he can ultimately become an Avenger and be taken seriously. But what happens then?

Seriously, once Mysterio became a “hero,” what did he plan on doing if an actual threat occurred and not one that he staged to make himself appear powerful?

  10. Is Mysterio Really Dead?

On that note, is Mysterio actually dead? After all, we’re talking about a master of illusions who rivals Batman in terms of contingency plans.

  11. Will J. Jonah Jameson Be Back?

Fans were delighted to see J.K. Simmons reprise his role as The Daily Bugle’s J. Jonah Jameson from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy in Far From Home’s mid-credits scene. Now that he’s here, though, is he going to stick around?

It’d certainly be a shame if this was simply a one-off reprisal inserted into the film for nothing more than fan service.

  12. Are We Going to Get a ‘One More Day’ Scenario?

Now that Peter Parker has been outed as Spider-Man, Marvel/Sony can go one of two ways: roll with it or put the genie back in the bottle. Should it be the latter, though, could we be looking at something akin to “One More Day?”

In the comics, Peter revealed his identity to the world in Civil War #2. In 2007, though, during the “One More Day” storyline, he makes a deal with the demon Mephisto to save a dying Aunt May by trading him his marriage to Mary Jane. Furthermore, the public’s knowledge of Spider-Man’s true identity is erased.

Of course, in the MCU, Spider-Man is practically the only hero who even has a secret identity, and since “One More Day” is widely considered one of the worst Spider-Man stories in recent memory, the notion of Marvel/Sony going that route seems unlikely.

Still, you can’t help but wonder…
