11 Highs And Lows of E3 2015

This year's annual Electronic Entertainment Expo has once again came and went, and itt was definitely a hectic event. There were tons of new announcements, updates and previews of all manner of games and upcoming events, but there were also a few bummers along the way.

If you didn't have a chance to catch all of E3, here's a few high points (and lows) that you should check out!

  1. Xbox One Backwards Compatibility

    High!

Microsoft pulled off a big win at E3 not by announcing a brand new game (though they did have a few titles to show off on that front) but by announcing backwards compatibility for the XBox One. The inability to play older games you already own has been an issue for gamers with this current generation of consoles, but Microsoft’s move will definitely win the Xbox One some favor with anyone who still hasn’t decided on a new platform.

  2. Metroid Prime: Federation Force

    Low!

Metroid fans have been clamoring for a new game for years, but Nintendo has remained mostly quiet on when there will be any new adventurers staring Samus Aran, galactic bounty hunter. Well, this year Nintendo finally showed off what is technically a new Metroid game, just not the one we were all expecting. Federation Force does look like a cute 3DS action game, but c'mon, Nintendo, give us the real thing already!

  3. Unravel

    High!

This upcoming platformer announced at E3 looks positively beautiful, and its protaganist Yarny looks just as adorable as well. This one will most definitely tug at the heartstrings of even the most grizzled gamer.

  4. EA Sports

    Low!

Yes, Electronic Arts, we know you make sports games. Yes, you put in some really fancy photorealistic graphics and stuff behind them, just like all the sports game you talked about last year, that also had some fancy graphics and tech. Yes, golf is neat when played on a console. We get the picture!

    Now show us more Battlefront.

  5. The Last Guardian

    High!

It lives! After years of silence, Sony finally gave fans of Ico and Shadows of the Colossus some reassurance that The Last Guardian was still alive and kicking - and headed to the PlayStation 4 sometime in 2016.

  6. Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 Presentation

    Low!

Yeah... this was just... just really awkward. Not sure what was happening here. I mean, PvZ Garden Warfare 2 does look kinda neat, but this fellow dancing around to "Danger Zone" seemed like they were trying just a little too hard.

  7. No Man’s Sky

    High!

This space exploration game keeps looking better and better everytime I hear anything about it. This year, Hello Games showed off a ton of gameplay footage, giving us a more indepth look at just how massive in scale this game will be. There looks to be tons of planets, ships, animals, and more just loaded into this game. It's actually a little intimidating!

  8. Shenmue 3

    Low!

This one generated some mixed feelings. Shenmue is a much beloved open-world RPG series, so it's neat to see a third one in the works after all this time. But it is a little iffy that despite having Sony behind it, the creators are relying on Kickstarter to make this game happen.

  9. Fallout 4

    High!

Although Bethesda beat some of the E3 game announcment rush by releasing the Fallout 4 trailer a couple days early, they really stole the show with an extensive gameplay demo. Fallout 4 is aiming to be an incredibly robust RPG, with a high level of customization available. From character creation, armor design and weapon mods, it's staggering the amount of control players will have over their adventures in a post-nuclear Boston. I couldn't pre-order it fast enough!

  10. What Was Missing

    Low!

While many games and new features were shown off by all the big names at E3, one low point from E3 2015 were the games from E3 2014 that were missing. Where was Quantum Break and Dead Island 2? Why didn’t Nintendo fill us in on new The Legend of Zelda after that fantastic trailer last year? And for the love of crowbars, is there ever going to be any news at all about Half Life 3?!

  11. Final Fantasy 7 Remake

    Super High!

Holy smokes. A modern remake of one of the most beloved JRPGs ever made?! I don't think ANYONE in the game industry or media saw this one coming. Heck, I'm not even that big of a fan of Final Fantasy games, and I just about broke my monitor throwing my wallet at the screen!
