10 Sci-fi Celebrities Who Love Star Wars

Star Wars is a cultural phenomenon, so it’s probable that many actors, writers and musicians who have worked in the sci-fi scene love it. But only some of them have been loud and public in their affection for the franchise. Let’s take a look at some of the sci-fi and fantasy celebrities who are one with the Force!

  1. Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae’s musical career doubles as sci-fi performance art. She often sings songs from the perspective of a futuristic android woman named Cindi Mayweather who is on the run from the authorities after falling in love with a human. She’s also a huge Star Wars fan. Not only did she attend the premiere for The Force Awakens, but she also agreed to represent Cover Girl’s Star Wars-themed makeup line.

  2. Emma Stone

Emma Stone secured a place in sci-fi movie history by playing Peter Parker’s Love interest, Gwen Stacey, in The Amazing Spider-man and The Amazing Spider-man 2. But she has some other sci-fi involvement too- in 2011, she participated in a Star Wars themed Stand Up to Cancer video, where she did a great impression of Admiral Ackbar. She also did some fake The Force Awakens auditions for a Saturday Night Live sketch.

  3. Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch has some huge sci-fi and fantasy blockbusters in his resume. He played Khan in Star Trek: Into Darkness and played the gold-hoarding dragon Smaug in The Hobbit trilogy. Because of his involvement in these projects, many fans thought he was the voice in one of The Force Awakens trailers.

In the end, he wasn’t involved in the movie, but was very enthusiastic about it nonetheless. He visited the set of the movie and he can also be seen surprising Harrison Ford with his Chewbacca impression. He can also do Jar Jar Binks (but why would he want to?).

  4. Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been in quite a few science fiction films himself. He co-starred in Inception and also appeared in The Dark Knight Rises. He was so excited for the premiere of The Force Awakens that he painted his face green and cosplayed Yoda.

  5. Darren Criss

Darren Criss may be mostly known for his role on Glee, but he got his start in fantasy and sci-fi productions. He was behind A Very Potter Musical and its sequels, which were affectionate musical parodies of the Harry Potter series. He also composed all the songs for the musical Starship, which was about a planet filled with giant bugs.

Criss got to attend the world premiere for The Force Awakens and afterwards, he bombarded the internet with enthusiastic, gushing tweets. Among these was “Star Wars franchise- we met again, at last. The circle is now complete” and “I love Star Wars. I love Xmas. So I really loved all the Star Wars this Xmas”. He’s also posted videos of himself with his miniature BB-8.

  6. Daniel Radcliffe

The former boy wizard is pretty new to the Star Wars scene, as he only first saw the original trilogy in 2014, but he jumped on the fan train hard. He gushed about its brilliant storytelling and character in an interview  and he appeared on Ellen dressed up as Bobba Fett.

He actually went and visited the set of The Force Awakens and he even told Conan O’ Brien that he wanted to attend the midnight showing of the movie dressed as a Wookie. I hope he acted on that plan.

  7. Kevin Smith

Kevin Smith is best known for making films like Clerks and Chasing Amy, but he’s also written several comics, including Green Arrow and a few Batman miniseries. J.J. Abrams showed him a chunk of The Force Awakens early and he found it “spellbinding”.

He went and visited the set of the movie and broke down crying in hoy when he got to stand inside the Millennium Falcon. He credits Star Wars for helping him fall in love with movies in the first place.

  8. Matt Damon

Matt Damon has starred in sci-fi films like Elysium and The Martian. He made no secret of his excitement for The Force Awakens. He claims to have watched the first Star Wars movie at least 18 times during his childhood.

  9. Daft Punk

The electronic music duo has a decidedly robotic theme to their songs and even dress and act as robots in public. They’re also big fans of Star Wars, maybe because they really identify with CP30.

The pair were seen in Stormtrooper helmets during the 2014 Grammys. They also promoted Star Wars clothing with Adidas in 2010. They can be counted among the celebrities who were psyched for The Force Awakens, as they got hyped about it during a 2013 interview.

  10. Hiromu Arakawa

You might not recognize her name, but odds are better you’ll recognize her work- Arakawa is the creator of the smash hit manga Fullmetal Alchemist, the tale of a two alchemist brothers fighting to get their bodies back. And the lady really loves Star Wars.

She lamented once that she was an inch away from buying an inflatable life-size Darth Vader. She also apparently sometimes gets drunk and rants angrily about the prequels, a habit a ton of other Star Wars fans likely share. She drew a caricature of herself slamming down a booze glass and screaming “Why would Padme fall for Anakin?” in one of her manga extras. I agree that this is indeed one of the great mysteries of the universe.
