This article contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, now in theaters.

The Skywalker Saga finally comes to a close with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. A whole lot of cool scenes were cleverly placed within the film that’s filled with nostalgia and a touch of something new. A movie that combined the prequel and sequel trilogy, Episode IX had its bittersweet moments, a last goodbye, and a new beginning.

Let’s take one last look as we recall ten of the most awesome moments from The Rise of Skywalker.

  1. Past Jedi Voices

Rey tries with all her might to defeat Emperor Palpatine, but it looks like all hope is gone with the heroine falling to the floor. And as Palpatine speaks of carrying all the Sith Lords of the past within him, Rey calls upon the thousands of generations of Jedi who came before her.

Then what follows are the voices of Yoda, Mace Windu, Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi,  Ahsoka Tano, Qui-Gon Jinn, Kanan Jarrus, Aayla Secura, and Luminara Unduli were heard. All of them were urging Rey to rise. And perhaps the most surprising one is Anakin Skywalker’s voice telling Rey to “bring back the balance” as he did.

The heroine slowly regained her strength, ultimately defeating the Sith Lord with his own power of Force lightning by using the lightsabers to deflect the power back to him.

  2. Kylo Confronts Palpatine

Kylo Ren arrives at Exogol and has retrieved one of the Sith Wayfinders. When he steps on a platform that goes down to Palpatine’s throne room, he hears the Sith Lord’s voice. He tells him, “Snoke has trained you well.” To which Kylo Ren replied, “I killed Snoke. I’ll kill you.”

The Emperor chuckles, “My boy,” he uttered. “I made Snoke.” It was then followed by a sequence of voices starting with Palpatine saying, “I have been every voice.” Snoke’s voice followed stating, “You have ever heard.” Finishing off the ominous sentence, Darth Vader’s voice said, “Inside your head.” Thus, the birth of one of the most iconic lines in the movie.

Despite being included in the teaser, this scene still sent chills to the audience and effectively delivered a good reveal.

  3. Force Ghost Luke

After Rey stabbed Kylo Ren, heals him, and rode off his TIE fighter, she intentionally crashed Kylo’s vehicle on Ach-To. In this scene, it seems like she has given up and attempts to throw and destroy Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber into the burning vehicle as the Porgs watch closely by. Much to her surprise, the Jedi Master’s Force Ghost has manifested and caught the saber with his hands.

Luke then proceeded to scold Rey, telling her that she should treat lightsabers with more respect. If you recall, Luke didn’t exactly take care of his saber very well in The Last Jedi.

Following this scene, he shows her to the place where Leia’s saber was kept and told her that the General wanted her to have it.

  4. Lando’s Return

The heroes made their way to the planet Pasaana looking for the other Sith Wayfinder. Coincidentally, a 42-year festival was currently happening. Stormtroopers followed them shortly after because Kylo managed to trace them using the necklace that he grabbed from Rey during their Force connection.

When a Stormtrooper approached them, a mysterious man saved them by shooting the trooper in the head. The masked man was soon revealed to be Lando Calrissian, which was actually a pretty unexpected entrance. Much like the audience, the heroes were relieved to see him, especially Chewbacca who Lando refers to as his “old buddy” which is the same thing he said to Han in The Empire Strikes Back.

Lando also revealed that he accompanied Luke to Pasaana on his mission to try and find Exogol.

  5. Luke’s X-Wing

After giving Leia’s lightsaber to Rey, scolding her, and giving her some pep talk, Luke knew at this point that Rey didn’t have a vehicle she could use to leave the planet after destroying Kylo Ren’s TIE fighter. Then, one of the coolest parts in the movie happened when Force Ghost Luke is seen levitating his old X-Wing and pulling it out of the deep waters.

Rey then used this ship to travel to Exogol where she will face Emperor Palpatine. A scene cuts to R2-D2 getting a transmission from Luke’s ship. The Resistance, confused, eventually picked up the signal. They referred to Luke’s ship as “Red Five,” which was the Jedi Master’s squadron number in the first Star Wars movie where he helped with destroying the Death Star.

  6. A Young Leia in Training

One of the most epic scenes in the film is a flashback that shows both a young Leia and young Luke. Once the princess was able to take down his brother on the final night of her training, they removed their training masks and showed a CGI young version of the characters.

Their young versions’ appearances seemed to have hinted that the Jedi Master has been training his sister around the time of (or towards the end of) Return of the Jedi. This scene reveals that General Leia isn’t just Force-sensitive by being a Skywalker and that she actually had training in becoming a full Jedi.

It was also revealed that Leia trained Rey. In one part of the movie where she gives advice to the heroine, Rey referred to the General as “Master.”

  7. Dark Rey VS Rey

When Rey was able to find the Sith Wayfinder on the Death Star wreckage on Kef Bir, Rey sees a vision of herself, similar to the experiences she had in The Last Jedi. This part has finally shown Dark Rey in action wielding her red double-bladed lightsaber. The heroine faces an image of her as a Sith and tries her best to fight off the dreadful image of her potential future.

Dark Rey was only seen for a few moments before Kylo Ren arrives and grabs the Wayfinder from her. He then destroyed it, which caused Rey to be enraged as both of them engage in a lightsaber duel. It eventually led to Rey stabbing Ren, she saw an opportunity to do this when Kylo was stunned upon learning that his mother died (but Rey eventually healed her after.)

  8. Wedge Antilles Returns

In order to defeat the Final Order, Chewie and Lando arrive at Exogol where they brought a whole lot of allies with them to help out the outnumbered Resistance. Among those is the fan-favorite character Wedge Antilles. Although it was only for a short time, Denis Lawson reprised his role as Wedge and was seen as the gunner of the Millenium Falcon. He even said, “Nice flying, Lando!” which got fans really excited.

One of the very few who survived in destroying the second Death Star, Wedge’s return is truly a treat for the long-time Star Wars fans who had hoped to see the iconic character fight with the Resistance and face the Final Order one more time.

Wedge also appeared in the novel Resistance Reborn, but this was the first time that fans have seen him in action on screen again.

  9. John Williams Cameo

One of the most iconic people in the franchise is the longtime composer John Williams. In this last chapter, Williams finally gets a cameo where he shows up as a bartender at Kijimi, this place was where Zorii Bliss led the heroes to Babu Frik when they asked for help to get C-3PO to translate the Sith writing on the dagger.

With only seconds on screen, this is one of the coolest and most memorable scenes in the film. The composer finally gets a cameo and he'll be able to look back at the Skywalker Saga, not only with his fantastic scoring but also an iconic appearance.

It is worth mentioning that his character’s name is actually Oma Tres, which is an anagram of the word “maestro.”

  10. The Entire Galaxy Comes Together to Lend a Helping Hand

When all hope seems lost and Poe Dameron on the verge of giving up, Chewbacca and Lando arrive at Exogol to help the Resistance. But they aren’t alone, aboard the Millenium Falcon, both character leads an entire fleet of repurposed vessels to help the Resistance in defeating the Final Order.

This was an awesome moment that has really uplifted the fans, not to mention Lando’s iconic laugh upon their arrival. This scene was a key moment that shows that the Resistance is truly not alone in their fight and that there are other people out there willing to help them out.

The ships spotted at the battle include The Crucible, Shadow Caster, The Colossus, The Outrider, Consular Class Cruisers, and a VCX-100 amongst others.

These are only a few of the most awesome moments in Episode IX. And since the movie offered a ton of fanservice that ties all nine movies together, Star Wars fans are treated with a bunch of iconic scenes that they would never forget. Do you have another awesome moment in mind?
