Warner Bros. Announces Plans to Make a Funko Pop Movie

Funko POPs have risen in popularity in recent years, with most people loving how they're cute representations of geeky media and others hating how overly simple some of the designs are. There are a few notable exceptions since some POPs have a ton of effort put into them but for the most part, they're all the same simple but cute designs. Well, it seems like Hollywood executives have taken notice of how POPular these things are since Warner Bros. has announced a Funko Movie.

Be very afraid.

Since the deal was just announced, no story details were revealed for the film, though most of us are assuming that it will be similar to The Lego Movie in that it will involve a number of POPular figures in geek media. It could have a "normal" character who is destined for greatness ala The Lego Movie or, God forbid, The Emoji Movie, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. For the sake of optimism, let's just hope that it's good.

Here is what Funko CEO Brian Mariotti had to say about the upcoming film:

"We're thrilled for this opportunity and are committed to make an amazing Funko movie that stands on its own merit. This isn't about selling toys or building a brand. The team at Warner Animation Group have a unique vision of what the first film should be and we are extremely excited to take this journey alongside them."

The line "this isn't about selling toys" sounds like a lot of baloney since we all know that movies like these are meant to sell toys, even good ones like The Lego Movie. Still, depending on who is involved, this could be a neat surprise that no one sees coming. Granted, I will remain skeptical until the movie comes out but I am always willing to be proved wrong.

No release date for The Funko Movie (or whatever it ends up being called) has been revealed.
