Wisecrack Hilariously Explains The Hidden Meaning Of Ex Machina

When Ex Machina came out, it was praised for being one of the smarter sci-fi movies to ever be released that year, and you bet it’s chock-full of symbolisms and metaphors peppered all over the narrative. The geniuses down at Wisecrack have released a video analyzing the movie, and you’d be surprised at all the clues and hints that you missed.

For one, I knew that the Jackson Pollock painting was supposed to mean something, but the video had to explain to me that it was also a metaphor for Ava’s creation — she was deliberately created, but at the same time not planned.

There’s also the fact that the entire house was made to look symmetrical to represent the preciseness of robots. Plus, Ava’s manipulative attitude was also a mirror to how manipulative both Caleb and Nathan were.

Alicia Vikander played her role really well as Ava, and she’s been getting a lot of roles ever since she appeared in the movie. For now, she’s the next Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider movie. Also, it’s fun to watch Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson switch sides from their Star Wars counterparts — Isaac playing the unpredictable “villain” of the movie and Gleeson the innocent protagonist.

As of now, director Alex Garland’s next project is for an adaptation called Annihilation, and it’s set to come out in 2018.
