William Shatner Wants To Be A Random Redshirt on Star Trek

William Shatner, whether you love him or hate him, left a huge mark on the Star Trek franchise. His portrayal of James T. Kirk continues to be iconic, with many still preferring his performance over Chris Pine's, who wasn't bad at all. Everyone has been wondering if he will return to the beloved franchise, especially with a Quentin Tarantino-helmed film in development, and it looks like he has some interest in coming back.

Interestingly enough, while most fans want to see him as Kirk again, Shatner actually told CinemaBlend that he would love to be a Redshirt.

For those unaware, Redshirts are basically the crew's cannon fodder who can be killed for dramatic effect. Many of them were killed in the more recent films, particularly Into Darkness, so it's kind of funny to hear Shatner express interest in the role. Shatner seemingly joked that he was into the role since it would be easy and won't take much time, though it was hard to tell.

"The guys in the red shirts. They die quickly. They're in and out, and you're into another show."

Shatner seems to be over his role as James T. Kirk and wouldn't mind a one-and-done cameo. That's not to say he isn't appreciative of the character or franchise but it looks like he would rather focus on other projects.

Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek still has no release date.
