The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest is one of Winter 2022's most-watched anime series. It centers on Matthias Hildesheimer, a twelve-year-old boy whose soul is a reincarnation of a man considered to be the world's strongest sage thousands of years before.
This man from the past named Gaius was incredibly strong. However, as the crest he'd randomly acquired at birth greatly limited his magical capabilities, he made the decision to be reincarnated years into the future to hopefully be given the crest he'd sought.
Gaius gets reincarnated in Matthias' body, and much to his delight, is given the crest he was literally dying to have... except this crest doesn't mean too much in the current times. What's more, he finds that magic is no longer held in the same high regard as it once was.
This plot is a relatively novel approach to the overpowered MC trope in most shonen shows, as we're given the backstory of how hard Gaius worked in order to become the strongest and still couldn't attain unquestionable power. He even died and then got reincarnated in a time where the power he thought was all he needed didn't mean much.
The premise seems to be a hit among anime fans as they are now looking into the possibility of a season 2 and what to expect if it happens.
Will There Be a Season 2 of The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest?
As of February 2022, there hasn't been any official confirmation for the production of a season 2 of The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest. If we were to go by how well the anime's first season is doing, things may not look too bright. Not because the show is inherently bad, but because of not-so-good reviews most likely coming from fans of the source light novel and manga.
The first episode was a cramped up condensation of the first few chapters, meaning key elements that would've played a huge part in the plot may have been ignored. On the upside, many of the fans of the source material found the first few chapters to be rushed and not too great, storytelling-wise. Whether the decision to skip the introductory chapters did the animated series good remains debatable.
The show's studio, J.C.Staff, has a lot of anime production in queue, so even if a season 2 of The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest gets the go signal, it might not be until years away from now.
