Why Fans Should Be Excited Over ‘Namor the Sub-Mariner’ Being Back With Marvel Studios Property

Most Marvel comic book characters are currently owned by Marvel Studios, but that doesn't mean the company is set on its ways. It seems like Marvel will do everything to own the rights to all comic book characters. We've already seen that with Sony's Spider-Man when Tom Holland's character appeared in Captain America: Civil War.

Now, it looks like things are looking up for Namor the Sub-Mariner, whose status with the studio has been complicated for the past couple of years.

Well, Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada has dropped some good news while on Kevin Smith's Fatman On Batman podcast, officially stating that Namor is at Marvel again.

He said:

I can't speak for studios... As far as I know, yeah we do. It's not at Fox, it's not at Sony... Yeah.

This ownership might not be fully settled yet, but if the character isn't with either Fox or Sony, he's pretty much with Marvel close to one hundred percent. This means there's a potential Netflix TV series and an underwater MCU film that could happen here. What's even more exciting is the fact that Marvel is owned by Disney, and the media giant has acquired incredible cinematic technology for its films like Finding Dory and The Jungle Book, which director Jon Favreau mentioned back in early April while speaking about directing Magic Kingdom. It might trump the visuals of DC's upcoming Aquaman solo film. We haven't seen an underwater superhero film from Marvel yet, so this should be exciting once it comes up.

That said, it could take a while before Namor will be included in any MCU film. The studio is already packed in movie schedules up to 2019. It could take years before we see Namor on the big screen, that is, if a Netflix series doesn't get to him first. Nevertheless, we're just glad that Namor is back with Marvel. At least we're secure in the knowledge that the studio will take good care of the character's portrayal in any platform. The possibilities are exciting!
