‘Weathering With You' is the Next Anime Film Coming From 'Your Name' Director

Your Name, or Kimi No Nawa if you're Japanese/a weeb, is considered by many to be one of the best anime movies ever made, with some even calling it a masterpiece. The movie is so beloved that Hollywood is planning to make a live-action version of the animated piece and are getting J.J. Abrams to helm it, which is huge. While some people might be curious about that, fans of the original anime will be looking forward to that director's next work; Weathering With You.

Makoto Shinkai, the man who directed the beloved masterpiece mentioned above, announced the film along with CoMix Wave Films, stating that the movie would be coming out sometime in summer 2019. No Western release date has been revealed but when you consider how much the rest of the world loved Your Name, expect one in the near future.

The story is as follows: High schooler Hodaka Morishima runs away from his hometown on a rural island and comes to Tokyo. Unable to find any other work, he eventually becomes a writer for a magazine focused on the supernatural incidents and other mysterious rumors. He meets a girl named Haruna Amano and finds out she can control the weather.

Here's what Shinkai had to say about the movie (via 9gag):

"I think it's going to be entertaining. This probably sounds kinds of cheesy, but I think it will make people laugh, cry, and realize things they haven't thought about before. I want this to be a movie that anyone can feel is a movie for them."

Let's hope that Weathering With You comes out in the West soon.
