Star Wars Celebrates the Women of the Galaxy for International Women's Day

Last Sunday was International Women's day and with the internet celebrating, Lucasfilm has decided to release a video celebrating all the women in the Star Wars franchise.

Check it out:

What's great is, the video covers women not just from the main movies, but from the expanded universe like Clone Wars and Mandalorian as well. They don't just focus on heroes too, as characters like Asajj Ventress and Captain Phasma get their share of the spotlight. At some point, I even forgot that bounty hunter Zam Wessell was also part of this galaxy.

I know it's a tad nitpicky at this point, but I kind of wish that video game characters were also included in the video. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order had given us the likes of Trilla, Cere, and Nightsister Merrin. Even the huge Ninth Sister was a badass.

I may also get some flak for this, but I kind of hoped that we got a small spotlight for Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Though some people like to blame her for the state of the franchise now, I think she was doing a great job ever since she took over. Sure there have been some missteps with Solo and The Rise of Skywalker, but I'm willing to bet that's more of Disney's fault rather than Kennedy's. If she ever exits the role, I want it to be on her terms, rather than the whims of some angry fanboys.

For now, the next Star Wars film is set to release in 2022. The second season of The Mandalorian comes out this October on Disney+.
