While Warcraft is expected to flop at the U.S. box office, Duncan Jones' adaptation of Blizzard's popular MMORPG franchise is breaking records in China. Warcraft's opening day grossed $46 million in sales, which smashed the previous highest opening day record in China, formerly held by Avengers: Age of Ultron with $28.3 million, Variety reports.
That's still a long way to go for the $160 million budget film to significantly profit, and if it does well, we'll most likely see more sequels as Duncan Jones already discussed plans for a trilogy. The film raked $20 million in China pre-sales, so that must have played a huge part in smashing records.
Warcraft opens in U.S. theaters on June 10, 2016.
