Tomb Raider Reboot Release Could Happen In 2017

A lot of rumors have surfaced lately concerning Warner Bros. movie plans. One is that the studio might release fewer DC films and focus on other franchises because of the drop of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Meanwhile, the latest rumor to hit the studio is that the speculated Tomb Raider reboot will happen sooner than everybody thought.

This news is brought by Heroic Hollywood, which is reporting that screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet has supposedly finished completing the draft for the movie's screenplay, and which Tomb Raider producers like. In addition, the movie is already set for the next production phase, which would mean the Tomb Raider reboot could be released in October 6, 2017.

If this still sounds unlikely, the website also pointed out that Warner Bros. already registered the domain www.thetombraidermovie.com last month.

So far, what we know of the reboot is that it will be inspired by Raiders of the Lost Ark, as well as the new games. It's also been reported that Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress Daisy Ridley is being considered to play Lara Croft. In response, the 23-year-old Brit actress herself has said that she wants to take part in the franchise.

The events of the latest Tomb Raider video games involves a young Lara Croft just beginning in her adventures, so this rumor seems very plausible.

At this point, it's inevitable that a Tomb Raider will happen and if the film will indeed be released in 2017, then a lot of fans will be very happy. I for one can't wait to see it, especially if Daisy Ridley is on board. It will be a very busy couple of years ahead of her if that happens, squeezing in filming of two huge franchises into her schedule.
