The Suicide Squad Star Joel Kinnaman Throws Shade At Jared Leto, Praises Joaquin Phoenix's Joker

It looks like Jared Leto might have another reason to despise the new Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix. Leto's former Suicide Squad co-star Joel Kinnaman has just thrown some shade at the Blade Runner 2049 actor and then praised Phoenix's performance in the Todd Phillips movie.

Kinnaman was recently a guest on The Big Ticket With Marc Malkin podcast where he was asked whether he felt like he was "cheating" on Leto for watching Joker (via Variety). "No. Who?" the former Altered Carbon star answered before talking about how Phoenix's performance really impressed him.

"Joaquin just crushed it. Wow. He is incredible. He's such an actor," Kinnaman said. "It's surprising to see that kind of a performance in something that has a DC wrapper on it because that's a real art film. And I have a sister who's schizophrenic, and I've drawn on some of her behavioral things in things that I've done earlier, and, yeah, I was really struck by how accurate his [performance was]."

We're not sure if Leto will be pleased about this. After all, it was previously reported that the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman had tried to get Warner Bros. to pull the plug on Phoenix's Joker movie because he felt it disrespected his role as the current Clown Prince of Crime. Nevertheless, the studio pursued the project, leaving Leto "alienated."

For now, we aren't sure if Leto will return as the Joker in future Warner Bros. films. In the meantime, Kinnaman is working on The Suicide Squad, which is scheduled for release on August 6, 2021. Joker is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
