The Squirtle Squad Are Coming to Pokémon GO

Squirtle is one of the most popular starters in Pokemon, thanks to a cute design and some of the best evolutions in the series. While fans of the games think of Squirtle as a reliable starter, those that learned about Pokemon through the anime first encountered the water-type as a member of the Squirtle Squad.

This is why Niantic announcing Squirtle Squad versions of the monster are coming to Pokemon GO is delightful news.

Niantic revealed that players who complete Field Research tasks during Community Day will be able to catch a special Squirtle with sunglasses. Unfortunately, the monster will not appear as a gang of Squirtles but it is a fun bit of fanservice. Hopefully, we get more alternate versions of Pokemon like this since it does add more replay value to the mobile title.

Alola versions of Kanto Pokemon are already a part of GO, with Rattata and Eggxecutor being prime examples. These alternate versions of the monsters we knew first appeared in Pokemon Sun and Moon on the 3DS, which changed up the series' formula dramatically.

Pokemon GO is now available for download on iOS and Android. The game is constantly getting updates that add more Pokemon and various gameplay fixes.
