The Rise of Skywalker Director Addresses Rey's Quick Mastery of Her Powers

It's no question that Rey quickly became adept upon the discovery of her powers. The Rise of Skywalker's heroine really has a strong connection with the Force and is becoming much more powerful as the story progresses. And as it turns out, these powerful abilities are all part of a bigger plan.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, director J.J. Abrams describes Rey's character as well as her quick pace in controlling her powers.

The interviewer pointed out that some Star Wars fans think Rey feels like she's "preternaturally gifted, even for a Jedi." And that she's learning faster than Luke Skywalker ever did. "Yeah, spooky, right?" said Abrams, as he flashes a smile. "It's a fair point," he added. He then claimed that Rey picking up on her powers fast is "not an accident."

Abrams' comment suggests that The Rise of Skywalker would indeed be tackling more of her past and the real story of her parents. The film would likely give a conclusion as to how she actually got her abilities and why she's learning at such a quick pace.

In the same interview, Abrams pointed out that the idea of the movie was to tell a tale of a young woman who was innately powerful, moral, and good. At the same time, the character is also struggling to find a place in the world and tries to support herself as much as she can. "As exciting as it was to get to play in the Star Wars universe, it was this young woman that I felt oddly compelled to get to know," Abrams added.

The director claims that the most exciting part of the film was telling the story of a young hero through the eyes of a woman.

It's certainly exciting to see what Abrams has in store for the fans, as well as the fate that our heroes would face in the movie.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres on December 20.
