The Punisher’s Low Season 2 Rotten Tomatoes Score Could Mean An Upcoming Cancellation

There's been a lot of concern over the fate of The Punisher now that it's released its second season on Netflix. Last year, Netflix chopped off three different Marvel TV series after the release of their second and third seasons on the streaming site. Iron Fist was axed after a better-performing second season. Luke Cage was canceled after a relatively tepid second batch of episodes. Daredevil, the studio's most critically-acclaimed show, was sent to the chopping block after a positive third season.

Now, reviews for the second season of The Punisher are in, and things don't look too good for Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle.

Rotten Tomatoes just posted the critics score for vigilante Frank Castle's Marvel TV series, and according to the review aggregate site, the sophomore season of the series has only managed lukewarm reactions from critics. Right now, The Punisher's second season comes at a low 50% critic score, 17% lower than the series' 67% critic score for its first season in 2017.

Though Netflix never really released the reasons behind the many Marvel Netflix series cancellations, analysts suspected that the shows weren't doing so well in terms of viewership. Critic scores can affect viewership for TV shows and films, so with a lukewarm score, The Punisher might not be doing so well.

Of course, we might just be worrying over nothing. Netflix has yet to officially cancel The Punisher and right now showrunner Steven Lightfoot and his writing team are all working on a third batch of episodes for the series.

Let's just cross our fingers and wait and see what happens.
