The Last Jedi's Rian Johnson to Work on Knives Out Sequel

After his success with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson had once again struck box office gold with his murder mystery Knives Out. With the movie grossing over $250 million in the box office, news has it that Johnson is now working on a sequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson has revealed that he'll be working on a sequel to Knives Out, and it will follow Daniel Craig's detective character Benoit Blanc as he investigates a new case. Johnson's producing partner Ram Bergman also had this to say about Craig's involvement, "Daniel had so much fun doing it, and he wants to do more."

What's also interesting is that Johnson has said that he wants to "make the pic quickly" and wants to start production ideally next year. I guess this means that he'll have to put another pin on his Star Wars trilogy, but then again, Lucasfilm has made it clear that they want to go on hiatus for a while, with the next movie aiming to come out in 2022.

With The Last Jedi and Knives Out, you can't help but appreciate the way Rian Johnson understands stories. Audiences came into both films with a set of expectations, and Johnson managed to subvert all of them. While I don't really think a Knives Out needed a sequel, I'm sure Johnson has something interesting in mind when it comes to Craig's Blanc character.

No release date has been set for the Knives Out sequel.
