The Last Jedi's Ending May Have Teased Rian Johnson's Next Star Wars Trilogy

Warning: Spoilers For Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Ending

When it was revealed that Rian Johnson would be working on a new Star Wars trilogy, it was quite the surprise. After all, the current trilogy involving Rey, Kylo-Ren, and Finn hasn't even finished yet. What ended up being really surprising was the confirmation that the trilogy would focus on new characters from a corner of the galaxy the franchise has yet to explore, which is fairly exciting to hear.

So it might be surprising for fans to know that the ending to Star Wars: The Last Jedi may have teased some of the new characters for Rian Johnson's next trilogy.

At the film's end, Luke Skywalker sacrificed his life to help the Resistance escape from The First Order. Before disappearing forever, he tells Kylo-Ren that the war isn't over and that he isn't the last Jedi. This seemed to indicate that Rey is the last Jedi, at least until the very end of the film.

Once Rey and the rest of the Resistance, including Finn, Poe Dameron, BB-8, and Leia Organa, escape from The First Order, we suddenly cut to a group of worker kids seemingly on break. These children were previously seen earlier in the film when Finn and Rose Tico were trying to find a codebreaker to jam the light-speed tracker that the New Order was using to find the Resistance. Said group was talking about Luke Skywalker before they were chased off by a worker alien.

Why is this important? Because in the end, we see one of those kids use The Force to get his broom.

It looks like that kid is going to be a Jedi in the future. Furthermore, he and his group of friends could be the main characters in Rian Johnson's next Star Wars trilogy. Admittedly, we could just be jumping to conclusions here but teasing another Jedi at the end of the film is a huge deal. Since these kids won't likely be appearing in J.J. Abrams' Episode IX, what harm could be done by making them the leads in Episode X, XI, and XII?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in theaters now.
